Six U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq attacks

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. Central Command says six U.S. soldiers have been killed in fighting with insurgents across Iraq in the past
few days.

One soldier from the 1st Infantry Division was killed and another wounded in an ambush near Tikrit on April 10, the statement said.

A soldier from the 1st Armoured Division died on April 11 as a result of wounds sustained from a bomb attack in Baghdad the night before.

A 1st Infantry Division soldier was killed when his tank was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade near Tikrit, north of Baghdad, on April
9 and three Marines were killed in fighting west of Baghdad on April 11, the statement said.

Earlier on Monday the U.S. military reported that three Marines had been killed in fighting west of Baghdad, but it was not immediately clear
if they were same three as reported by Centcom. The Marines do not give details about the circumstances when they take casualties.

The Marines have been involved in fierce fighting in and around the towns of Ramadi and Falluja, west of Baghdad, for the past week,
although a tentative truce is now in place.

The U.S. military said on Monday that around 700 Iraqis and 70 U.S. troops had been killed in fighting since April 1.
